SUPS is a club for underwater photographers. Our aim is to encourage and promote interest in underwater photography and, for our members, to develop the skills required for this art form. We try to educate and inform the public of the wonders and beauty of the underwater environment.

The club meets monthly for club members to take part in competitions, workshops and view presentations. Once a year we invite a speaker, always a well known professional or semi professional underwater photographer. The annual speaker evening is advertised locally and is open to all members of the public, for a small charge. Speakers over the last few years have included Martin Edge, Leigh Bishop, Alex Tattersall, Alex Mustard and Linda Pitkin.
We also occasionally display our work at special exhibitions. During the last exhibition, called “A Global Walk Underwater”, we displayed about 360 photographs for a month in Letchworth and ran educational classes for a number of visiting schools. Again the aim was to educate and inform about the underwater world and to encourage its conservation.

In addition senior members of the club visit other clubs and groups presenting our work and spreading the word about the need for conservation of the underwater world. Here is a list showing some of the organisations we have visited in the last few years.

The Stevenage Underwater Photographic Society meets every 2nd Tuesday of each month from 8pm at the Stevenage Arts Guild, Community Arts Centre, Roaring Meg, Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
